If by some chance you're hearing this, then there is still hope. Hope that you can avoid the same mistakes we made in our deep rooted foolishness. We fought the Reapers tooth and nail, but we failed to stop them. We just weren't strong enough and we did everything we could. We built the Crucible but for some reason it just didn't work. Because it didn't, we fought as a united galaxy, but it just wasn't enough. I only hope the information in this capsule from a treasured asari doctor named Liara T'Soni and her Prothean friend, Javik, is enough to help you before you suffer the same fate we did. My name is Captain Olivia Marcellus and herein lies the recounting of a great man, a great commander, a skilled leader, and how he led us against the Reapers and to our deaths.

Ending of the Reaper War

The Reapers harvesting all organic life.

Commander Carmen Creed refused to activate the Crucible, stating to the Catalyst that "I fight for freedom. Mine, and everyone's. I fight for the right to choose our own fate. And if I die, I'll die knowing that I did everything I could to stop you. And I'll die free," and that he insisted that, "a decision with such a massive impact on the galaxy and its people cannot be made, and that the war must end on his terms." This resulted in a Reaper victory and the continuation of the cycle of extinction. One of Liara's time capsules is then shown on an unknown world, and a recording of Captain Olivia Marcellus, Armory Chief for the SSV Normandy SR-2, girlfriend of Carmen Creed, and Admiral Hackett's esteemed daughter, explains that even though the people of her time failed in their struggle against the Reapers, those who find the capsule still have a chance to succeed.
